The Journey

Getting ready for this mission wasn’t easy. following unrest in Antananarivo after the September demonstrations, many doctors were hesitant to travel. Just a day before departure, our surgeon cancelled – but through teamwork and determination, we found a replacement in time.

We set off before dawn on 30th September, hoping to avoid any roadblocks. Two representatives from the Ministry joined us, including the Head of the Partnership Directorate. The journey was long and eventful – Three flat tyres, one mechanical breakdown and an unexpected overnight stop in Mandoto! Yet at every challenge, help appeared just when we needed it – even to bajaj motorbikes turning up out of nowhere to carry part of the team when our vehicle broke down.

The Mission

After two days on the road, we finally arrived in Ambatolahy. The team wasted no time – surgeons prepared their equipment, the Ministry team began inspections and together we opened the mission with a short service. With no pastor available, we led the blessing ourselves, sharing how God has guided us safely though every obstacle.

Over the following days, the team worked tirelessly. Complex cases filled the schedule – gallbladder stones, thyroids and tumours – alongside more routine operations like hernias and appendectomies. One young boy, just 10 years old, underwent successful gallbladder surgery and recovered well. Another patient, a man who had lived for years with a thigh tumour, was finally healed – his joy and disbelief a reminder of why we do this work.

The Return

Even the journey home brought new tests – yet another puncture, rough roads and long hours of travel. But despite the exhaustion, the team’s spirits stayed high.

Looking Back

Even though there were fewer patients that usual, the mission was a clear success. The ministry representatie saw first-hand the professionalism, skill and faith of the MMS team – proof that, no matter the challenges, we remain ready to serve with courage, care, compassion wherever we’re called.
