reaching the unreachable

In March 2026, HoverAid’s Mobile Medical Clinic (MMC) teams continued delivering essential healthcare to remote communities across Madagascar - reaching hundreds of patients each week through a combination of full missions and day visits.

Starting Each Mission Ready

For every mission, the logistics team travels ahead of the medical staff to prepare the site.

By the time doctors arrive on Monday morning, clinic tents are already up, the registration desk is set, and patients are waiting. This means the team can begin treating people straight away — making the most of every day on the ground.

Across the month, around 600 patients were treated each week.

Where We Worked

Each patient brings a different need, and the team treats a wide range of conditions.

In March, this included:

  • A three-month-old baby treated for an ear obstruction
  • A mother with very high blood pressure receiving urgent medication
  • Patients with joint pain, kidney conditions, and pregnancy-related needs

These everyday moments show how important accessible healthcare is – especially when early treatment can prevent more serious complications.

When More Support Is Needed

Some cases require care beyond what can be provided in the field.

This month included a deeply difficult moment. A child with severe respiratory illness was urgently referred to Ambovo Hospital. Despite all efforts, the child did not survive. The MMC team later transported the family home — a reminder that this work carries both hope and heartbreak.

In another case, a pregnant woman showing signs of complications was referred to CHU Anosiala, where she received specialist care.

Why It Matters

Mobile Medical Clinics provide a vital lifeline for communities with little or no access to healthcare.

From early diagnosis to emergency referrals, the impact of each mission goes far beyond the numbers. Behind every consultation is a person, a family, and a story – and HoverAid remains committed to reaching those who would otherwise go without care.
