reaching the unreachable

Early last month, HoverAid achieved an exciting new milestone during our Medical Safari (MMS) in Beroroha - successfully delivering an additional mobile outreach clinic to the remote community of Volambita using our new hovercraft, FAITH.

Home to around 900 people, Volambita is one of the most isolated communities in the region, with residents needing to walk approximately 27 km to reach the nearest health centre. For many people living there, access to healthcare is extremely limited.

Thanks to the speed and accessibility provided by FAITH, two HoverAid doctors were able to travel directly from the main MMS operations in Beroroha to Volambita for a dedicated two-day clinic on 8 & 9th April 2026. This marks the first time HoverAid has been able to run an additional mobile clinic alongside a main Medical Safari mission in this way – a significant step forward in expanding healthcare access to even more remote communities across Madagascar.

Working from the local primary school, the team saw 145 patients over the two days, treating conditions including respiratory infections, diarrhoeal illness, skin conditions, gastritis, genital infections, and schistosomiasis. Women and children made up the majority of those attending.

The mission also marked the first time the people of Volambita had hosted a medical outreach clinic of this kind, with the community giving the team a very warm welcome.

As HoverAid continues developing its hovercraft capabilities, missions like this demonstrate the huge potential for reaching communities that would otherwise remain cut off from essential medical care.

To see the full statistics and impact from this mission, look out for the full MMS Beroroha report coming soon.

Together, these activities reflect the wide-ranging nature of the programme – supporting clean water, sanitation, community partnerships and resilience in some of Madagascar’s most remote areas.
